Yes, Even a Reputable Dentist Can Commit #IDTheft From Right Under Your Nose

This story will puzzle you — because it's ludicrous. Absolutely ludicrous. But it DID happen. And, luckily, the damage was minor, but this prove to you just how unexpected identity theft can be. You don't have to be a real "criminal" to commit to it.

You can be Dr. Richard Ludwig, a dentist making upwards of $4MM and with $250 in cash in pocket; yet this genius was absolutely dumb enough to steal a poor man's credit card accidentally dropped onto a parking lot after leaving the site and use it buy $40 worth of pizzas.

Of course, the unsuspecting victim found out that he was missing his credit card and then reported the plastic stolen. Yet the credit card company notified him that the card was already used. Needless to say, the victim reported the crime to the authorities and the cops showed up at the pizza place to find the dumb dentist Ludwig still waiting for his pizzas to bake.

Ludwig was apparently charged with three felonies, a consequence that could land him in jail for up to 15 years. All of that for just $40 worth of pizzas.

And he honestly could've paid for them himself!

The Startling Truth of #IDTheft  and the Terrible Effect It Has on Facebook

You can be a British pop star, model and producer like Carolyn Owlett, and you're STILL susceptible to the worst kind of identity theft known to man when an unusual person starts following you around professing undying love to you.

The eerie fact about this true story, though, is the unusual person, Regis Remacle, WASN'T a stalker! He was an honest guy  who ACTUALLY had a relationship with her for 17 straight months. And she didn't even realize it.

The reason why she never knew was because her identity was stolen online, and the poor man received countless photos from Facebook as well as tons and tons of chats and emails to support the fact that he, indeed, had a relationship with one Carolyn Owlett.

Go figure. Needless to say, the culprit was discovered, and she (yes, it was a woman) promptly deleted all photos and the fake account created in Owlett's name. Crisis averted.

Yes, With #IDTheft, You Now Can Be LEGALLY Married to Multiple People!

We wouldn't advise that as a good idea, though…. After all, you not only would have legal repercussions, but PERSONAL ones as well. Still, you could be the hapless victim like one Rosa Vargas of Queens, NY, who found out, much to her dismay, that she was actually married to two men, one from Mexico, and one from Ecuador.

And to make it even worse, she was filing for marriage with the city clerk only to be denied after finding out. That's not something you want to have to break to your fiance. Of course, you can just go to another district and file there, because there wouldn't be similar records anywhere else. The couple got married (even though she was legally married to two other men. One from Mexico, and the other from Ecuador. Just wanted to repeat that one more time.).

The story didn't stop there, though, as Vargas received divorce papers five years later from the Ecuadorian husband she never met. It was later found out that Vargas had lost her birth certificate a decade and a half ago, and within that time, her information was utilized TWICE — by two different women. Probably as a way to scam for immigration and allow those women into the U.S.

The sad thing is while Vargas eventually was able to get those fake marriages removed legally, she has since discovered that she's, in fact, married to a third man in Long Island. At least it's nowhere near Mexico or Ecuador.

Finn, the Stormtrooper: Your Latest Victim of #IDTheft

Have you seen the Star Wars film? Good. Then you'd know how much it stinks to have the stigma of a stormtrooper and not want it. That's what identity theft does. It makes you out to be what you really don't want to be, just like one Simon Bunce in England who found out that he was going to get arrested for child pornography.

Something didn't add up at all. Bunce never took child porn pictures. And, yet, there was actual 'proof' about it. The evidence was enough for him to lose his job and face a family about to disown him. Life was about to crumble — until Bunce did some investigating of his own to find out that his credit card info was stolen and then utilized by someone from Indonesia to purchase porn from an American website. And all of this happened right from under his nose.

The proof he had discovered was so irrefutable that he even then discovered that he had an alibi all along during the time the porn was purchased: the man was actually in a restaurant in London!

Sadly, Bunce had to go through tons of scrutiny before finally reconciling with authorities and with his family. The poor man now swears not to ever use those evil credit cards.

#IDTheft: This Message Will Self-Destruct in Ten Seconds

Yes, in real life as well as the silver screen with exploding trains, scaling windows, bombs, fight scenes, and motorcycle chase sequences can identity theft occur in the worst way, and when a Wichita, KS, man decided to go into a police station and report as an "undercover agent" assuming the identity of a local homeowner, you'd think the cops would start asking questions.

Thankfully, they did. A unit was sent to the house to find that same man, the "undercover agent," living there like normal under the guise of the stolen name — of which the REAL homeowner had been absent for several months due to caring for a sick mother in another town. All without that poor man knowing about his stolen property.

Self-destruct, indeed.
